Glossary of Technical Terms

Extended Reality (XR) - Is an acronym for eXtended Reality, a term used to encompass all real-to-virtual interactions enhanced by technology. This includes augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies, which provide a digital extension of the physical world as it relates to our senses.

Augmented Reality (AR) -  Is the technology that expands (augments) our physical world.  It works by creating a real time-time interactive experience through the camera view of the user’s device where computer-generated layers of digital information (sounds, videos, graphics) are superimposed  onto an existing real environment, thus changing the perception of reality.

Virtual Reality (VR) - a computer-generated simulation of a three-dimensional environment that can be interacted with in a seemingly physical way via the use of special electronic equipment or ‘wearables’ such as a VR headset.

Photogrammetry -Is the science of recording reliable information about physical objects and environments through the process of 3D scanning, measuring and interpreting photographic images and patterns; in order to convert them into 3D digital models.

Optimisation - In computing, optimisation is the process of modifying a system to make some features of it work more efficiently or use fewer resources.

Release or Software Release - A release is essentially a version of the same app.  Every time we make changes and improvements to our app, there will be a new release that will be distributed to all users. This will happen mostly weekly throughout our trial.
